Ingredients
- 2 ripe plantains (yellow with black spots)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- 1Peel the plantains and slice them diagonally into 1-inch thick pieces.
- 2In a bowl, combine the sliced plantains with cinnamon and brown sugar (if using). Toss gently to coat evenly.
- 3Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- 4Once the oil is hot (a piece of plantain should sizzle on contact), carefully add the plantain slices to the skillet in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- 5Fry the plantains for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 6Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried plantains from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt while still hot.
- 7Repeat the frying process until all plantains are cooked.
- 8Serve warm, optionally garnished with additional cinnamon, sugar, or a drizzle of honey.
